Humans upstream or homogenized slop

Listen Later

AI turns businesses into process engines, but sloppy human defaults create template hell.
Look at the signals stacking up: Enterprises arent systems of record anymore—theyre collections of workflows. AI slots in by supercharging inputs (deterministic stuff like tax rules in TurboTax) and outputs (endless creative experiments in dev or marketing). Atlassian shows the smart play: layer it onto Jira and Confluence without killing the familiar—summarizing tickets saves onboarding time, agents handle bottlenecks, but the teamwork graph keeps outputs grounded in real org knowledge. Trust builds through confirmations and editable loops, not blind faith.
The flip side hits design and adoption hard. Vibe coding with LLMs lets anyone spit out pro-looking landing pages in hours—think slick hovers reinforcing brand lightning effects or gradients. But the training data curse kicks in: popular patterns go viral in days, flooding startup sites with purple everything, scroll-jacking that distracts from the message, chasing cursors, and fade-ins burying clarity. Founders who treat AI as the starting prompt outsource their thinking and get homogenized slop; those who start with their own color palette, hierarchy, and value prop treat it like Excel in the early days—a tool to execute vision, not replace it.
Pricing tension mirrors this. Customers want predictable per-seat or controllable usage, not consumption spikes that feel like youre betting your baseline against the machine. Systems embedding decades of edge cases (state laws, company IP, tribal know-how) resist full replacement because AI shines at amplification, not inventing the hidden rules.
What connects it? The Goldilocks zone for adoption is executive human judgement looped tightly with the grind—build your mental model first, then prompt. Without that, models race ahead while value lags, and mass deployments devolve into generic noise. Deterministic processes embed deep and stick; pure creative output explodes but homogenizes unless youre actively the opinionated editor.
Bottomline: Adoption hinges on embedding human taste upstream, or AI just scales the mediocre faster.
