The Beatitudes are "birthmarks" of true citizens of Christ's kingdom. Those in whom the Holy Spirit has worked. He reveals their poverty of spirit, enables them to grieve over personal sin and causes them to stop trying to justify themselves. Now they yearn for Christ. He becomes their Righteousness, and the only One who fully satisfies their spiritual hunger and thirst.
