While it's common for employers to be a bit upset when you file a workers' comp claim, they cannot physically or verbally abuse you. If you experience such harassment, especially if you're a union employee or there's a contract in place, you may have grounds to sue. Similarly, firing an employee for filing a workers' comp claim is against federal law. However, retaliatory discharge cases can be complex, and certain conditions need to be met.
