Healing Our Hurts

What if your past pain is still shaping your future? This message is about healing—not just the obvious hurts, but the hidden wounds we carry through life. Betrayal, grief, disappointment, shame—these don’t fade with time. But the cross and the empty tomb tell a better story. Jesus showed us the way: He acknowledged the hurt, let go of the right to retaliate, prayed for His enemies, made room for reconciliation, and trusted God with the outcome. If He carried our wounds to the cross and walked out of the grave—scars and all—maybe your pain has a purpose too. And maybe healing will start today.

  1. Icebreaker – When you hear the word hurt, what’s the first story, memory, or feeling that comes to mind? 
  2. Luke 22:44 – Jesus in the Garden – What does this moment teach us about acknowledging our pain instead of suppressing it?  Is there a hurt in your life that you’ve avoided naming or dealing with? 
  3. 5 Steps to Healing – Of the 5 Steps to Healing shared in the sermon (Acknowledge the Hurt, Forfeit the Right to Punish, Pray for Them, Be Open to Reconciliation, Trust God with Your Future), Which step is hardest for you right now? Why?  Which one do you feel God is inviting you to take next? 
  4. From Pain to Purpose – Jesus rose with scars, not open wounds. What would it look like for your hurt to become a scar—no longer painful, but still purposeful? 
  5. Is there anyone in your Community Group that needs to take their next step by being water baptized?
