Hymn #17 Be True To Your School

Listen Later

What can two small colleges (Hillsdale and Grove City) teach Harvard?

Coach shares his views on government involvement in schools and how it is a loss of independence with Harvard's current fight with the Trump administration (where he makes the bold claim that he actually knows more than Harvard's president Alan Garber) and also discusses the recent (May 2025) decision of the US Supreme Court denying 2 Catholic charter schools public funding. What makes a school truly independent?

Along the way, you'll hear about Luther's 2 Kingdom view, the proper way to address religion in the classroom, the concept of DEI that is being taught rather than the strawman DEI that is presented in most argument to avoid just criticism of the overall concept, and an interesting survey from faculty of UC Berkley that DEI initiatives may have gone too far, even to the point of being mere virtue signaling when the need for action presents itself .

The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."

-C.S. Lewis
