The experience awakened in me an interest in

hypnotic trance. I began to read up on the practice,

checking out library books on the subject. I learned

that not all people are susceptible to hypnotic

suggestion. Even in a clinical setting, the practice

of hypnotism is an uncertain science and the only

way a clinical hypnotist can determine the suggestibility

of a subject is to administer the hypnotic

suggestibility test. In essence, this simply means

that a person trained in hypnotic technique attempts

to induce trance in a subject. A subject’s susceptibility

to hypnotic suggestion is determined by the

success or failure of the procedure, it is no more

scientific than that.
