Letters from a Glass House

I am a Citizen

Listen Later

In Acts 22 of the Christian bible, Paul is spared a beating by Roman soldiers because he declares himself to be a Roman citizen.  The Roman commander said, “I had to pay a lot of money for my citizenship,” to which Paul replied, “But I was born a citizen.”

In his sermon, Dr. McMillan helps us understand the importance of this passage in ancient times, as well as its relevance in the present.  Dr. McMillan weaves together Scripture, Unitarian Universalist principles, and modern issues of civil rights to explore how equality and justice are birthrights that must be extended to all.  The questions “Who is my neighbor?” and “Who is a citizen?” are intrinsically linked.
