I am a humble sailor

navigating life’s rough currents

my lungs propel my dreams to sail

across huge waves cruel deterrents

My body is a solid craft

from my bow down to my stern

and my map is tattooed on my soul

telling me I can’t return.

From this voyage that we all must take

that will last fourscore and ten

purging ballast that just weigh us down

till we never sail again

I have battened down the hatches

over all that I hold dear

for my journey’s wrought

with huge onslaughts

so I keep my loved ones near.

Sometimes I have gone overboard

but I’m tied to a strong bracket

it’s my lifeline that prevents my loss

tied to my hope, my true life jacket. .

And when I pass others who fell

into despairs vast depths

I reach above and pull the bell

directing them to steps

that will lead them to my decks

where they’ll find some temporal rest

but each day on the horizon

you’ll find me headed for tomorrow

We’re all evolved from life’s huge sea

our bodies full of salt

we all must sail above it

moving through it without fault

For somewhere in the distant banks

stand endless souls all giving thanks

that they pursued a journey true

and reached that paradise they knew

waiting for them far beyond their blues..ooo.ooo.ooos

On a sunny beach kicking off their shoes

Cause they sailed past all that misconstrues

and now forever they’ll peruse

what they earned cause they paid their dues.

Cast all the hate, deceit and grief

that plagues your life into the deep

and sail away hearts full of glee

to somewhere where you’ll always be
