Lovely read
This book is about pre-schooler Maddie finding out she must wear an eye patch to correct a vision problem. The story is sweet but the approach to the issue is straightforward. You can feel Maddie 's anxieties but parents,teacher and friends all help her deal with it in a positive practical way. More than that, it's a story about just being okay with who you are!
I would recommend parents and teachers read this book to their children to encourage those dealing with an issue or to foster empathy in children toward others.
Review of "I am not a pirate
This is an outstanding children's book, which I purchased for the pre-school kids in our family. The book is an excellent and easy to understand story of the problems of little Mattie. It provides a wonderful story of overcoming the obstacles in life if we all work together. There is, indeed, a good side to life. I would highly recommend this book as an important example for pre-schoolers in understanding life. This is the caliber of book we need in our classrooms today. We love Mattie.

What a fantastic book!
A very cute story about dealing with a new and difficult issue. Both my teenage daughter as well as my younger nieces enjoyed the story. I think it would be a great book to have in eye doctor offices. A story the kids could enjoy as they wait, but also a great resource for the doctor if a child is diagnosed with Amblyopia.
Love the idea of this book
Shannon hit the nail on the head with this one....a girl who had to wear a patch but is NOT a pirate....so good to explain that "others" are different
