Who am I, or rather who are you? Words have the power to form the reality we think of. Our thoughts however, define who we are to ourselves – one’s identity. With that, don’t we all have the power to choose how we paint our canvas? When you hear the word ‘Nigger’ and consider its meaning, what feeling is invoked in you? Is your reaction determined by another’s perception of who you are? For years this word has had power over black people so, on this episode of BlackFor30, I am joined by Trey Alexander to discuss the history of the word and its impact today. Trey is from the South Side of Chicago and he grew up during an era where segregation was rampant. His views bring a distinct perspective to the discussion. He currently resides in Sydney, where he runs his barbershop and they call him the ‘Master Barber’.
