"I'm so proud of you Ruby. You've outdone yourself this semester."

My dad said as he looked at my perfect grades. 

"Thank you, dad. Now will you buy me the new iPhone as promised?"

"Absolutely!"

"Thanks, dad. I'll head to my room and catch a movie, see you later."

I said walking away with a smile on my face.

"Ruby, wait, I have some news."

I didn't like the serious look on dad's face. The first time I saw that look on his face, he told me that mom was not coming home from the hospital. I was only seven years old then.

Ruby, It's been ten years of me raising you alone, and it's been such a joy watching you grow into the beautiful young lady you are now."

"You're scaring me dad."

"What I'm trying to say is I've been seeing someone for a while now. Her name is Monica. She is a lovely woman and I'd like to introduce you to her and her twin daughters."
