In John's gospel we can read the seven "I Am" sayings of Jesus. God introduced himself to Moses as "The I Am" (Exodus 3:14). Now, in keeping with the many miraculous prophetic revelations in God's Word, we have Jesus attributing this title to himself in amazing ways. Jesus said, "I am the bread of life" (John 6:35).

Bread is a symbol for food that sustains life. The bread of this world can only sustain life for a limited amount of time. Jesus, "The Bread of Life," can sustain life for all eternity. Jesus is God's heavenly manna now offered to the whole world. There is a wonderful aspect to this gift of The Bread of Life. The gift is not just about eternal life, but also about quality of life. We will have the life of Christ within us with the power of the Holy Spirit helping us.
