Paul perceived that the journey will end in disaster and advised the captain not to sail out, but he listened to the helmsman instead. The soft wind turned into a tempest and they landed in a three-day storm. The wind called the Euroclaydon (East Wave) threw the ship around on the waves. They had no food to eat for 14 days and decided to throw the cargo & tackling overboard to lighten the weight of the ship. When that didn’t help they wanted to throw the prisoners overboard but Paul (one of the prisoners on his way to Rome) stood up and said they should not throw anybody overboard: ‘an Angel of the God whom I belong to and whom I serve stood by me in the night and assured me there would be no loss of lives but only loss of the ship. I believe God it will be as the things spoken to me.’

The ingredients of Paul’s faith can be summarized as follows:

1. He had spiritual perception

2. He had a definite word from God

3. His faith was unselfish and saved the others as well

4. His faith was opposite to circumstances and what others saw

5. He took bread and broke it and ate it. The others followed suit.
