We consume over 100,000 words a day. Every which way we look, someone or something is vying for our attention. So how do you cut through all the clutter and get the people you want to listen to what you have to say.?

Here are my top tips for grabbing attention in your content, including emails and social media captionsP

1. Use emotional content to increase effectiveness. Even adding emojis make a difference with some brands reporting up to 56% increase in email open rates when they’ve used them.

2. Ask leading questions, posing an intriguing hypothesis or promising something so audacious are all great ways to get people to read on. But, don’t forget to provide the pay off in the first sentence or so or else your audience might not stay hooked.

3. Create urgency or FOMO (fear of missing out) with time bound offers, last chances and exclusivity. Nobody wants to be the one that doesn’t get picked for the team.

4. Offer something in return for your audience’s attention. And don’t be afraid to use the word FREE as in get my free storytelling guide (no really, you can,  click )

5. Use stories to connect with your audience and create actions - like opening your email or clicking on a link. Keep it simple but personal, for example Mary created awesome email newsletters using a very clever storyteller’s top tips and here’s how she did it…..
