I had been in the school cafeteria less than ten seconds when the group of “cool kids” started on me. It was always the same, I tried to avoid them at all costs, but sometimes there was just no getting away from them.

“Oh my god, what have you got on your feet?”

“They look like you found them on a garbage site!”

“He smells like he’s been on one too!!”

“Hey, cut it out! Leave him alone!”

I was so relieved to hear Mark's voice. He was my best friend and he always defended me.

The cool kids disappeared in a flash and I turned to thank Mark. He put his arms around me and gave me a hug.

“Thanks Bro!”

“No worries! I love you man!”

“I love you too!”

Mark and I had been best friends for years, when I was a new kid at school he was the only one who was nice to me. When I first arrived I was pretty lonely, all the other kids already knew each other and weren’t keen on having a new kid hang around with them. But Mark was different.
