Today I wanted to talk to you about an experience I had recently, I was recording video for one of my projects and I always do a test recording prior to starting the actual recording.

When I did the test recording of 30 or 60 seconds and turn off my video recorder it said that the video itself could not be saved, I tried doing two or three test recordings and I made changes in each one and nothing solved the problem.

I went and got a brand-new card to put in my camcorder and try the recording and once again it didn’t work as I’m scratching my head wondering what’s going on here I thought maybe I should try reformatting the card in the camera.

I did that with the old card that I had been using and reformatted it according to the instructions for the camera and then tried another test recording, when I saved the recording this time I didn’t get the error message and so I assumed the recording was saved.

I was able to play it back and everything was fine I then went ahead and did my video recording project that I was intending to do and everything worked fine. But it brought to mind the reminder to reformat your cards for storage for not only your camcorder but also your audio recorder if you use one.

It will save you the frustration that I had prior to doing this project it was certainly an unexpected error which can cause delays when you’re in the middle of projects and have deadlines to get things done.

What I learned is I want to reformat my storage cards on a monthly basis to make sure that they’re working properly however make sure that you backed up anything of importance on the storage cards before you reformat them
