I Don't Care for Journalists, As a Rule

Listen Later

Some people are so busy being clever that they don't have time enough to be wise.  -- Thomas Sowell

For a variety of reasons, journalists simply aren't as sharp as they could be for the same money.  Example:  The WaPo ran a headline "California, the latest epicenter, is reporting more coronavirus cases than most countries in the world."

News organizations want to be:  Good looking, racially "diverse," Ivy leagued, leftist, female, LGBTQ, smug, related to Important People, more than they want to be smart or knowledgable.  It shows.

To a large extent, the left DEDUCES reality from principles rather than OBSERVING reality and inducing principles from that.

So many people are satisfied with the following 3-step routine to certainty:

  1. A preceded B.
  2. A causing B is consistent with my worldview.
  3. A caused B.

The only problem is this is not nearly good enough if the subject matters.

Explanations exist; they have existed for all time; there is always a well-known solution to every human problem — neat, plausible, and wrong.  -- H. L. Mencken
