As a trilingual military general and heir to a West African nation, Abdul Rahman was captured and sold into slavery, spending 40 years on a plantation in America. Despite the unimaginable hardships he faced, he married a fellow slave and had nine children, and even gained the support of influential figures such as President John Quincy Adams and Secretary of State Henry Clay. Despite his longing to return to his homeland, he was only able to do so at the age of 67 and passed away just as news of his return reached his former kingdom. Join us as we explore the remarkable life of Abdul Rahman and his unwavering dignity and hope for the freedom of his people and what his descendants are doing .”
