I Have Chosen leads the study this week. As we will look at what God has Chosen for His people to do when fasting. Compassion and love instead of stiff-necked religious lifting up their own fake righteousness. The lifting of the head when fasting, posturing their selves to make them look how righteous a thing it is too fast, going without food. All the while nurturing their selves while so many are suffering around them. God wanted his people to help those around them. Jews who suffered, those bound by darkness, and those yoked with wickedness who cannot find peace or joy. To fill the empty bellies, to let the milk of human kindness soothe as a balm of Gilead the souls of the afflicted. It is not to make pretense and lift thyself up as an exalted mountain of righteous ways. Righteous were to understand the love of God and pursue it. In the course of this, healing and rescuing their fellow countrymen from torment and bondage.
