Lesson Text:
This passage shows God hears more than our words, reminding us:
10For the kind of sorrow God wants us to experience leads us away from sin and results in salvation. There's no regret for that kind of sorrow. But worldly sorrow, which lacks repentance, results in spiritual death.
2. God doesn't accept BLAME SHIFTING. Once you hear the word, you're responsible for DOING the word.
20The person who sins is the one who will die. The child will not be punished for the parent's sins, and the parent will not be punished for the child's sins. Righteous people will be rewarded for their own righteous behavior, and wicked people will be punished for their own wickedness. 21But if wicked people turn away from all their sins and begin to obey my decrees and do what is just and right, they will surely live and not die.
22All their past sins will be forgotten, and they will live because of the righteous things they have done.
8" 'This people honors me with their lips, but their heart is far from me; 9in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.' " Matthew 15:8–9 (ESV)
3. SINCERITY is more important than VOCABULARY.
Don't allow pain, discouragement, or disappointment lead you to QUESTION what you KNOW is true about God.
17Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, 18yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!
