I Liked 'The Last Samurai'

Listen Later

SPOILER-Alert: If you haven't seen this film, 'The Last Samurai', but want to, I do reveal some plot elements to make a point about the prevalence of tradition and wisdom over technology. Technology is superb, and I love it, but sometimes traditions prove to be more meaningful. What do you think? Post in the comments!

I loved the Last Samurai.
Very much dances with wolves
Bushido code
The code f moral principles which the samurai were required and instructed to observe. Often unuttered.
8 virtues
Righteousness
Heroic courage
Benevolence/cmpassin
Respect
Honesty
Honor
Duty/loyalty
Self-cntrl/self-discipline
Emperor speaks - has a voice - values tradition and roots (Samurai) and never frgetting who we are
Amazing script. Great acting.
The performances of Watanabe and Cruise made for incredibly layered, fulfilling, and meaningful cross-culture dialogue.
I liked Watanabe more simply because I am more drawn to the (to me) unfamiliar Japanese culture. I know American culture all too well. I seek what is different at times . But cruise’s performance was exceptional.
Saw in theaters. Wasn’t the right time fr me t appreciate this movie.
Restored my belief in cruise’s acting ability. Not Tom Hanks. An exceptional actor, but cruise was perfectly cast and quite remarkable in this film.
War of worlds - sci fi action thriller
Missin impssible spy action
Long film. 2.5 hours .like a play. Miss that in films these days.. not actin film although action in it are drama fish ut f water this was quality
Drawn to asia.o
Grew up with martial arts 8 years ld t 13. Then on and off though highschool and college. JKA. Dojo. Japanese words for movements. Bowing. Resect.
Pure. Harmony. Honor
Asians in HI. Laugh on bus
korean woman in Australia
Korean sign language in library in Brisbane, aus. Hysterical. Fun
Wanted t learn korean and Japanese, mainly Japanese, after aus 2009 first time, but lacked the self-discipline and focus and support

I loved the ending too. How technology (the Gatling gun) indeed killed the samurai, but technology lost the war because tradition and bushido code was more valuable and truly won. I love that final line of finding that piece of peace that we all seek. I truly believe authentic peace is not found in distraction (gluttony, drugs, porn, indulgences that don’t involve Nature) but in self-discipline, focus, friendship, honoor, rich genuine culture, and one’s efficient and well-aligned utilization of time.
