Listen Later

Helen Barnett spent twelve years as a police office in the metropolitan police. She had what can only be described as an incredible career, one filled with immense challenges. Helen was the first mother to serve in the SO19 Armed Response Unit of the Metropolitan Police. During the course of her career, she was stabbed, caught up in not one but two IRA explosions and was also shot.

She was awarded The Queens Commendation for Brave Conduct. As a result of these incidents, she was medically discharged with PTSD.

Since leaving the Police Force Helen has faced many challenges, which she continues to work on to this day. In a bid to raise awareness and support for military veterans and emergency services members in coping with PTSD, Helen continues to share her story in the the hope, that by talking about her own experiences she can show that there is help out there in dealing with and overcoming adversity. No matter how big or small.

Helen Barnett is a true inspiration and the perfect next guest on Protect and Serve.
