This week on the I Love Madison show, the team is back to highlight several great places around Madison you need to visit, as well as a few individuals who are making an impact in the community! Neil Mathweg says the game of magnets is underway, so don’t forget to check that out! Chris Sorenson invites his parents onto the show for the “Mission” segment to talk about how they are joining in the fight against human trafficking through an organization called Zeteo, then Laura Strickland joins Neil in the studio to talk about Monroe Street, a local hub in Madison that is home to over 100 businesses and shops!   The game of magnets    There are so many great reasons why you should play the Game of Magnets! There are tons of Madison residents who have already joined and are on the search for more magnets around the city! After you receive your magnet, you can register it on social media, then keep an eye out for other magnets around the city. If your magnet or a magnet you have registered gets selected, you win some great prizes to local places around the city! Rumor has it that a few of the local car washes will knock the magnets off your car, so make sure you remove them before getting your vehicle washed!   “On-mission in Madison” with Chris Sorenson Zeteo is a faith-based organization on a mission to provide long-term house and care for victims of sex trafficking in Madison. Chris’s parents, Kenton and Marlene Sorensen are the founders of this organization. After reading the book “Redeeming Love” by Francine Rivers, Marlene developed a passion for women who have been rescued from sex trafficking. After meeting with the local police to talk about the issue, both Kenton and Marlene realized there was a huge need for long-term housing and basic care for these victims. They are currently working on a community house project, where several families can stay and receive loving care and counseling in a Christian environment. In April, Zeteo will be hosting a community event for other organizations in the Madison area who are taking a stand against human trafficking. Marlene mentioned that if you have a desire to help with the project, please reach out via email or their website. Chris Reese hosts the “My Move” segment with guest Edwin B    Edwin is an E7 in the Army, soon to be promoted to warrant officer. Before living in Madison, Edwin and his family lived in Denver, Colorado. Soon after moving, his family got connected at Heartland Community Church, then started to explore all the great activities that Madison has to offer. During the summer, Edwin highly recommends going to the zoo and the farmer’s market. In the fall, the various corn mazes and pumpkin patches are a great way to spend time with family. Edwin also said he was very excited about the upcoming CrossFit games, hosted right here in Madison.     I Love Monroe Street Laura Strickland joins Neil Mathweg in the studio to talk about the amazing area that is Monroe Street. If you have never been, Monroe street is a delightful area located in the heart of Madison. This area consists of over a mile of locally-owned specialty shops and businesses, surrounded by a historic neighborhood. Monroe Street is conveniently located near UW-Madison's Camp Randall Stadium, the Henry Vilas Zoo, the Edgewood Campus, Vilas and Wingra Parks, and the UW Arboretum. Is 2018, there will be a major construction project taking place. To ensure that the nearly 100 locally-owned businesses survive and thrive during the 2018 reconstruction of Monroe Street, the Monroe Street Merchants Association has put together Survive and Thrive kits filled with special offers from the merchants as a way to say thank you for your loyalty! Survive & Thrive Kits are available for $9.95 and include over $300 worth of value!
