In the last 2 days I have had some opportunities to pray for people… and it truly does happen all the time in my world… these are non christians, non religious and typically not open to the gospel… 

Now this happens all the time… really. I have friends like me who would tell you the same thing. Luke, Mike, Pete and many more… but when Christians talk to me about this they always make it sound like I am either blessed with a supernatural gift or I have the greatest spiritual luck in the world… Let me let you in on a secret…

The truth is, I am always looking for a crack in the conversation… a need, a hurt, a question, just about anything that I can calmly ask them if I can pray for that situation… now more times than not, they don’t realize I mean right then and there… 

I think I first learned this from Pastor Tom Flahrety back in 1990… Now I have never been afraid to share Jesus, but I lacked the suave smooth calm style. So Tom and I played racquet ball at the Y. One day he comes to get me Im in the weight room (surprise surprise) and two guys are in there working out… I have never seen them but I can tell they are out of towners and so can Tom. He chit chats about where they are from… they are both just out of college and taking the summer to travel to figure out what they want to do… Tom listens and says well hey, let me pray and ask God to help show you what you should be doing… they both looked a little questioning but were like uh…. Ok sure. Tom prays a short prayer and then says You know I do know one thing God has for you… and he leads into a simple short gospel asks them to pray with him. It was so simple, so easy , so relaxed and so comfortable for all of us… I thought… thats it. Look for a need and pray for them and then share the gospel….

Jesus cared for people and then shared the gospel.

1 Thess. 5:17 Praying with out ceasing… I think that applies to many things, but definitely in areas like this. Be ready to pray for anyone, anytime, anywhere for anything…

I have had some odd conversations and prayed for some interesting things… one guy wanted to get a girl in bed so badly… so I asked him if I could pray for that. He agreed wholeheartedly- So I prayed God I pray you would show this young man your perfect will for this young lady and for him…. Along that line. I did not pray for him to get her into bed… but all he wanted to know was do I really care about him, was I listening or was he just a project… when we were done I again said I know what you really need… and I shared a simple gospel with him. He did not accept Christ that time… but he left feeling loved and understanding the gospel and his need for it. 

So.. Don’t chicken out and say I will pray for you… and then just walk away or change the subject. Pray for them right then and there. Again about anything, for any reason, at anytime and then share the gospel.
