So... How Much Do You Make?

I Quit My Job To Chase Crabs & Now I Make Grown Men Cry

Listen Later

What happens when you quit a steady job behind the bar to chase crabs, and end up helping people heal in the process? For Charleston native Tia Clark, the answer is connection, courage and a return to her roots.

After two decades in the food and beverage industry, Tia’s life was spiraling. Long nights, cigarettes, and stress had left her sick and exhausted. When she finally quit smoking, her body rebelled, sending her on a journey that led to holistic healing, massive weight loss and a surprising new passion: crabbing.

What started as a simple way to get healthy soon became Casual Crabbing with Tia, a land-based experience that reconnects people with the water, the Gullah Geechee culture, and the joy of catching their own food. Within months, Airbnb named her one of the top four hosts in the world. Today, her dockside adventures have made grown men cry, corporate teams cheer, and families rediscover what it means to slow down and reconnect: with nature and with each other.

In this episode, Tia opens up about her transformation, from bar manager to crab whisperer, and the ancestral pull that changed her life. From learning to trust herself again to watching strangers find healing on the water, her story is about second chances, vulnerability, and the magic that happens when you stop saying no and start listening to what calls you home.
