Over the past few weeks, Steve and I noticed that Mom had been acting suspicious, leaving the room when taking calls and taking her phone everywhere she went. She now had a line of worry permanently etched on her forehead. Steve and I wanted to make sure that Mom wasn’t in any danger, especially since she was a detective for the police department.  

"Where is she?" I whispered to my brother Steve. 

"She's in the shower, so you've got about ten minutes,"

I smirked. I didn't need ten minutes since I've been hacking computers since I was seven. I connected the phone to my computer and got to work. About two minutes later Mom’s photos from her phone popped up across my screen in the form of a slide show. When it got to the last photo Steve and I gasped. There was Dad standing next to a little girl who was sitting on a chair with a sign in her hand that read "Please help me".

Hey, my name is Eli.

As soon as I was finished I replaced the phone in Mom’s room. Steve and I focused on finishing our chores to distract us from what we saw, well at least until we were alone. As soon as Mom left for work Steve and I discussed what we saw.
