"Celine don't forget your glasses!" Mom called out to me as I walked across the lawn to my new college dorm room. I wished she'd just go home already. I loved my mom but she reminded me of a life I wanted to leave behind.
Throughout high school, everyone said I was a nerd.
"It's OK to be a nerd. Some of the richest people in the world were school nerds." That was mom's idea of a pep talk whenever I came home sad because some kid at school bullied me.
Graduation couldn't have come soon enough. When I got accepted to my college of choice, I was super excited but my excitement died down when I imagined that it would be like high school all over again.
"Celine!" I was startled by my mom.
"OH yeah, the glasses," I said as I walked back to the car. "Thanks mom, have a safe trip back."
"Are you sure you don't need me to help you unpack?"
"I'll be fine, go."
I wasn't planning to unpack just yet because I had appointments to get to. First with the optician, to have my glasses replaced with contacts and then with the hair stylist right after.
