It’s terrifying to realize that the scariest place in the world is a place you can’t escape. And what “place” is that exactly? Your mind. Some of the most effective horror movies over the years are the ones where the villain is unseen for the majority of the film. That’s because the villain we project in our mind is worse than any villain Hollywood can cook up. Crazy, right? Our thoughts are powerful—more than we realize. So what do we do with this reality? How do we handle the fact that the worst battles we’ll face of our own making in our mind? How do we get control of toxic thoughts before they get control of us?
Identifying the issue with our thoughts is a great first step to overcoming toxic mindsets. But it’s just that: a first step. We can’t simply know we’ve been believing lies; we have to actively start telling ourselves the truth about our situation. About who God is and who we are. Every stronghold in our mind needs to be torn down with the truth of God’s Word.
