Dear Reader;
I love men. I have always loved them, and now, in a time of such judgement and rancour between the sexes, I love them even more.
It has never been easy to be a man. To live in constant preparedness to fight and protect loved ones at all costs, such that vulnerability became a true liability, or to fail at aggression and be seen as weak and feminine. To have the pain of the father visited upon the son, over and over, forever seeking to earn the mantle of manhood. To long for love so deeply, and yet be denied the tools of surrender.
And in recent years, our men, once honoured members of the tribe, now carry a supposition of blame, regardless of character or action, and are deemed responsible for myriad ailments of the human way.
Yet there is a pure lusting of the heart a woman can feel for the essence of a masculine presence in her life, the dream of inviting him into her arms. This very impulse is beautiful, just as the men who receive her gaze are beautiful in her eyes. In our rush to unveil our spiritual natures, we are not meant to bypass the godly pleasures of our humanity on the way.
From where did this song arise?
As an intuitive, Creative whispers come to me in poetry and images, illnesses and visitations, healings and revelations, chants and music. The song I share today was given in a time when I was downloading whole melodies, harmonies, vocal and rhythm sections, like listening to a radio. I WANT A MAN began to play one day, and I wrote it down. It’s lustful, playful, melodramatic, and full of joy.
This arrangement is shared with deep thanks to the absolutely marvellous Louise Lambert, whose rich, bluesy voice you hear alongside mine. It was such a delight to create this with you, and I am grateful.
To all the men of my life, I love you. Know you are irreplaceable and wonderful. Please, never hide or be shamed by the beauty of your essence. I celebrate you, as so many women do.
much love, Adi
