The Dwight and Patty Show

I Want To Be Someone Who Takes Up Space (Jen Jacob)

Listen Later

Patty ruined her tea with too much honey. Dwight prefers his tea British style. 🇬🇧(Is that a foreshadowing?) A couple months after her sister’s death, Jen began studying at NYU. Healing has been a process. The Tisch School of the Arts sounds a lot like Hogwarts. Dwight makes a football comparison in understanding the different techniques of acting. Fun Fact: Patty and Dwight are both SAG-AFTRA members after being on the show, Hart of Dixie back in 2014. Auditioning is the worst, and it’s a catch 22, because for professional jobs you really need an agent and a manager.  (Jen got really lucky.) Jen scours acting websites, and submits herself for everything she thinks she’d be good at. Jen’s advice to aspiring actors: Get out there, do the work, and put in the time. Take classes! (That’s a great place to meet people.) People want to help each other, so ask for introductions. If you’re not booking plays, do showcases. You just never know. (Sidebar: You can’t be above doing the work. Patty and Dwight still ship out their own merchandise.) We all assume the worst so we don’t get let down, but we also believe in the power of positive thinking. Rejection can be hard, but get used to it! Voiceover work…Dwight wants to make a lot of money in the field. Is that possible? Patty is starting an 8-week improv class so she can be silly, let go and not take things so seriously. FAN QUESTIONS cover Jen’s morning routine, her day job, her favorite hair products, what she would tell her 20-year-old self and more. Jen is working on her own original pilot! We also talk about health and wellness re: being a partner to someone who is not well (i.e. Jesse Ruben and Lyme disease). Jen wasn’t a stranger to illness. Another ugly truth: The caretaker is the hero of the story, (i.e. getting praise and attention), but you can’t be everything to any one person. It takes a village! Jen and Patty both have experiences with eating disorders. Disordered behaviors (red flags) vs. full blown eating disorders. Positive reinforcements for negative behaviors. “I want to be someone who takes up space. The thinner I am, the smaller space I take up.” - Jen Jacob. “I place more value on my strength than on my size. Feeling strong feels better than feeling thin.” -Patty Lynn. Dwight wants clarity. It’s not difficult for any one person to answer for themselves. What is your intention? What is motivating you? Are you treating yourself with love? ♥️ Everyone is different. Listen to YOUR body. Like her husband, Jen runs marathons for charitable causes. She runs for Fred’s Team for the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Follow @Jen.Jacob on Instagram by April 27, so you can see her post the fundraising page for 2019. Check out Jen’s appearance in upcoming films, Between The Lines and The Game! Oh and you can see her on Lena Dunham’s GIRLS in Season 3 as “Larraby Delayne,” and in Aziz Ansari’s Master of None as “Paola,” and so much more. Way to go, Jenny!
