Covetousness

When you hear the word covetousness do you have any idea what it means?  Don’t you think that everyone should know what it means since God put it in the Ten Commandments?  This week we look at what covetousness is and what target we need to aim at in order to quit covetousness.

1. What can you learn from Exodus 20:17?

“You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”

Look at the items that this command covers:

1. His wife - the general lust for women (opposite sex)

2. His Money - the general greed for wealth

3. His property - the general accumulation of goods

2. Proverbs 14:30 says, “A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones”.  Pastor David went on to say, “You’ll never experience God’s purpose for your life if you are being distracted by God’s purpose for someone else”.  

What are your thoughts about the scripture and Pastor David’s thoughts on it?

3. Where in your life are you covetous?

4. BONUS QUESTION… if you are struggling with the issue of covetousness then there is a chance you are busier counting your neighbor’s blessings rather than your own.  Take out a piece of paper and begin writing down all the blessings you have in your life.  This should take some time but when you are done, you should find peace and contentment.
