You have to pick a side.   That is what people are saying today.   Are you for Trump or against him?   Are you a conservative or democrat.   We have an idealogical civil war going on in the United States that is tearing this country apart.

I won't pick a side.    If I do have to pick a side, i pick the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.  I love this country and want the best for it.   

Let's talk about Donald Trump.   Let me say that I don't agree with everything President Donald Trump has done.  I do agree with some of his actions and decisions.   I probably won't agree with everything you have done in your life, and you probably would not agree with all of my actions.  

One thing I am concered with is that in this country we have lost the ability to have a civil discourse on the issues.   I used to own a radio station in McMinnville, Oregon.  I did something called "Street Level Radio, if it's on the street it's on the air".    I would go out into the streets, much like Jay Leno on the Tonight show and hear what is on their minds.

For example, here in Chattanooga, Tennessee; I talked to a man whose son has not talked to him for three years because he voted for Donald Trump.   That's wrong.   Donald Trump may have done some things that have made you furious, but is that any reason not to talk to your father for three years??      

In this country, we really need to talk about the issues.   Dan Rather has written a fascinating book on patriotism.  He is also concerned about the division in this country.   He recommends we start with small issues to discuss and hopefully solve, and then work out work to the larger problems.  One example is upgrading a Little League baseball park.   We seem to have lost the motivation to even try and see the other persons point of view. 

We have serious issues in this country.   The Budget, taxes, jobs, health care, insurance.   The cost of health care and health insurance is eating us alive.   We have to fix that.   Now.   We have the best health care in the world, but people can't access it because they can't afford it.

So let's talk.   And no, I won't pick sides.   Again, I say the only side I will pick is the United States of America.   Let's look for some middle ground.    Not coming to an agreement on some of this issues is not an option.  We have to fix them, NOW.       I'm Dave Adams and this is USA Heartbeat.
