Change is coming to the way New Zealand handles its drinking water following the Havelock North incident where 5000 people became sick.

The Government is also looking at major reform around who owns and runs New Zealand's water system.

Water specialist Iain Rabbits told Mike Hosking testing is an important part of water safety.
