In this episode, my guest is Ian Smith, author of The Acquirer's Playbook. Ian D. Smith is the founder of The Portfolio Partnership (TPP) in 2009 to assist private company owners scale their business to ensure the company is saleable during the next 1 to 5 years, TPP executes operational actions to make businesses bigger and more profitable.

Where appropriate, they do this by buying companies to scale quicker and to dominate a sector. Their public company practice focuses purely on acquisitions, helping senior management build M&A capability into their group. TPP is staffed with successful C-suite executives with deep operational and M&A expertise in both private and public companies.

Prior to TPP, Ian's experience building four previous businesses in publishing, investment banking, and software in both Europe and the United States gives him a unique set of skills. Ian has held leadership roles in two large public companies, built two investment banks and turned around two private software businesses. He has advised on over 50 transactions. He has published seven books and around 500 blog posts. Ian's latest book, The Acquirer's Playbook, addresses a huge gap in the marketplace, detailing a process map for successful acquisitions.

He graduated from the University of Strathclyde and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and lives in the US.
