After record highs in both feeder and fat cattle, prices have pulled back sharply — with feeder cattle values falling roughly 15% in just two and a half weeks.
“You know that feeder cattle index, which signifies an 800-pound steer, has gone from 370 to less than 340. So, a $3,040 drop. Throw in today's big drop, and it's going to be softer going forward,” Rueber explains.
Dave also discusses how emotions are driving markets as much as fundamentals right now, why this isn’t a supply and demand problem, and why he sees this stretch as a short-term “Band-Aid ripping off” moment after historic highs.
