We sit down with the man known as 'Ice', or Isaac John, a former NRL player turned successful entrepreneur. Isaac has donned the jerseys of the Panthers and Warriors, represented New Zealand and the Cook Islands on the international stage, and since hanging up his boots, he's been making waves in the world of business with his popular lifestyle brand YKTR.
Launching his NRL career with the likes of Stacey Jones and Manu Vatuvei, Ice soon found himself making an early detour to the Super League with Wakefield. He returned to the NRL stage in style, notching a memorable hat trick against his old squad, the Warriors. But it wasn't all smooth sailing - Ice was part of a notorious World Cup campaign that ended with six arrests and an unexpected loss to the USA, a saga that could rival any buck's party. Yet through all the highs and lows, Ice kept his stride, making his mark in a six-year span in the NRL.
Ice gives us a glimpse into his transformation from the rough and tumble of the NRL to the world of entrepreneurship, handling the extremes of both arenas with remarkable resilience. He takes us through the evolution of YKTR, a venture he started with his best mates Corey Norman and James Segeyaro that's grown from a clothing brand into a lifestyle revolution, complete with a podcast and community. Originating from a common phrase and group chat name, 'You Know The Rules', YKTR has now become a recognised brand in the Australian streetwear scene. With valuable insights into the ups and downs of starting a business, Ice offers helpful advice for aspiring entrepreneurs and shares how the spirit of friendship and resilience has been instrumental in the success of YKTR.
