This first episode engages discussion among four women, long-time Coalition volunteers, working with people involved in the justice system.
They speak about lived experiences since one is recovering from incarceration, another works with disabilities and mental health as a family member and social worker. They bring the perspective of field experience advocating for change inside and around the law enforcement, 911, jail and court systems, and helping people recover after a justice system crisis completely upends the family health and economic situation. This episode asks, “What is Justice?”
Their collective knowledge illuminates varying perceptions of justice revealed by citizens experiencing a civic crisis incident. Often starting with an emergency 9-1-1 call for help, the trauma and shock escalates, becoming more complex engaging police officials and the social and civic entanglement of investigations, arrest, incarceration, court appearances, prison, probation and multifaceted justice system impacts.
