Idaho Weather 3/7 Morning - Spring Tease, Freeze Please

Listen Later

Good morning. Idaho. I'm Aaron Jolly.
Step outside this morning and you’ll feel it—that damp, heavy air hanging over the state. Classic early March: gray skies, temperatures stuck in the 40s. And the kind of overcast that makes you wonder if the sun still exists. But here’s the twist—this isn’t your typical chilly weekend. Idaho is split right down the middle today.
Folks in the Treasure Valley, you’re the lucky ones. Highs climb to **54 degrees** this afternoon—that’s **25 degrees above normal** for early March—under partly sunny skies. Light north winds at **5 miles an hour** mean it’ll feel pleasant, almost balmy. Tonight dips to **39**, but Sunday? **65 degrees.** Yes, you read that right. Spring teases early here, with sunshine sticking around all day. Perfect for a bike ride or that first outdoor lunch of the season.
Head east toward Idaho Falls and you’ll want to hold onto your hat—literally. Winds howl out of the southwest at **14 miles an hour**, gusting to **23**, while temps struggle to **44 degrees** under mostly cloudy skies. Patchy fog rolls in tonight with lows near **35**, but don’t be fooled—those winds make it feel like **28 degrees** by mid-morning. Sunday brings a brief reprieve with highs near **55**, but gusts return to **31 miles an hour**. Farmers, take note: those gusts could kick up dust on freshly tilled fields.
Up north, it’s a different story. Rain moves in by late morning, sticking around until **4 P.M.** Highs hit **56**, but that’s before the bottom drops out. Temps plummet to **45** tonight, then **freeze** by Sunday morning as rain turns to snow. Yes, snow. By Monday. Coeur d’Alene and Sandpoint could see light accumulations, with highs barely scraping **42**. This isn’t just a cold snap; it’s a full-blown winter relapse.
Looking ahead, that Canadian cold front arrives Tuesday with **gusty winds** from **20 to 30 miles an hour** and a **25 degrees temperature drop**. But don't get too comfortable—by Thursday, temps rebound to the **upper 50s and 60s** in the south, while the north stays stuck in the **40s** with a rain-and-snow mix.
Spring officially arrives in **13 days**, but Idaho’s weather isn’t ready to commit. Pack layers, watch for sudden wind gusts. And if you’re heading north, toss the snow brush back in the car. This week’s a rollercoaster—hold on tight.
See you tomorrow.
See you this afternoon.
