Good morning anglers! Here’s your April 12, 2025, fishing report for Lake Fork, Texas.
The weather looks pleasant for anglers today, with morning temperatures at 55°F, climbing to the mid-70s by afternoon. Expect partly cloudy skies and a southeast breeze of 5-10 mph—perfect conditions to hit the water. Sunrise this morning was at 7:12 a.m., and sunset will be at 7:47 p.m., giving you plenty of time to cast a line.
The water remains stained with temperatures ranging from 63°F to 66°F, ideal for spring fishing. The lake is slightly below full pool, and the fish activity is excellent as bass and crappie are in spawning or pre-spawning mode.
**Largemouth Bass** are moving into shallow waters for spawning. Smaller males are holding along sunny, protected banks, while larger females are staging near flats in 1-3 feet of water. The bass bite has been strong, especially in the evenings. Best baits include flukes, chatterbaits, and wacky-rigged Senkos in natural colors. You could also target them with Texas-rigged soft plastics or square-bill crankbaits in crawfish patterns.
**Crappie fishing** has been steady. Look for them in 6-20 feet of water around submerged timber and close to spawning flats. If you locate an area with water temperatures between 62°F and 64°F, try fishing in 2-4 feet of water as crappie move shallower to spawn. Minnows, hand-tied jigs, and soft plastics are all producing good catches right now.
**Recent catches** at Lake Fork have been impressive, with largemouth bass in the 3-7 lb range reported, and some giants over 8 lbs being caught. Crappie anglers have also seen great success, hauling in quality slabs consistently.
For bait, Lake Fork Trophy Lures like the Live Baby Shad Swimbait and Ring Fry are proven winners. Chatterbaits, suspending jerkbaits, and plastic worms are great choices as well. For catfish, stick to cut bait or stink bait in deeper channels.
**Hot Spots to Try Today:**
1. **Birch Creek:** This area features plenty of structure, such as timber and grass, perfect for spawning bass. Focus on Duck Call Cove near the creek’s mouth.
2. **Big Bass Point:** Located near the Hwy 514 Bridge, this spot is known for trophy-sized bass. Target 10-16 feet of water with Carolina rigs or spinnerbaits in watermelon or June-bug colors.
The fishing is excellent, so grab your gear and get out to Lake Fork while the conditions are prime. Tight lines!
