Identity and passion are closely linked, because we identify with things that we desire to be.

We might be passionate about being kind, diligent, hardworking. Those things are important to us, so we try to see those qualities in ourselves.

Likewise, when we read a poem or hear a song that inspires us, it gives us an indication of what we might be like. The resonance in our souls lets us know that we have the potential to embody that idea.

In the case that we find we identify with something that we’re not passionate about - in the extreme, identifying with being rude or insensitive - then perhaps it’s time to rethink our identity.

We can begin to wonder what we are enthusiastic about being; what are the highest qualities that we would like to embody.
