I Don’t Know

IDK about Addiction

Listen Later

Plan to tell ya:

  • Difference between abuse and addiction
  • When many folks tend to have a problem with a substance
  • Why healing doesn’t have to hurt

Meat & Potatoes:

  • Many sides to this and IDK the answer. I see it as abuse is when you regret the substance use….then addiction is when you need the substance, whatever it may be. Many college students abuse alcohol and learn their lessons. In contrast, a meth addict may have their children taken and still use claiming they ‘need’ it.
  • Addiction doesn’t have to be to a substance. I.e. Gambling, video games, pornography, WORK (Self diagnosed workaholic)

  • Disruption! Work/life Balance is BULL. Try on work/life integration, see how it tastes.

  • Most addictions begin as a way of self medication. Treat the issue and one no longer needs to escape/cope/numb/feel/etc. Self example: I survived a nicotine addiction!! I thought healing would hurt as it often did when previous attempts to quit did. Long story short: Once upon a time I found a companion named Mr. Nick-O-Tine. Fast Forward through good times and bad. Then fear got me to quit. Grit kept me from using but man those cravings were brutal. Finally, in a single Rapid Resolution Therapy session with an excellent clinician, I shifted the relationship I had with cigarettes. That change made from the inside out was such that I no longer mind when others smoke around me, I am truly indifferent to other smokers, but if I look at a pack of cigarettes I have an aversion as the pattern of association is now icky sticky gooey maggots in my mouth. I don’t want that. I don’t want cigarettes. The app on my phone says I’ve gained several months of life expectancy.
