The Electoral Court has granted the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) permission to postpone the March 3 by-election owing to current Level 3 lockdown restrictions, which prohibit political activities. 

The by-election is now set for May 19. 

This year 24 ward by-elections have already been postponed, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

By-elections previously postponed by the IEC on January 11 will also take place on May 19.
