Amos 3:1-15.

All of us at some point in time have derived great encouragement and comfort from the gospel promise of Romans 8:31--"If God is for us, who can be against us." But what we often fail to remember is that the Bible also teaches that there is a grim mirror image to this truth, namely--if God is against us, who can be for us. According to God's Word we can't escape the fact that God at time and to fulfill His purposes turns Himself against His people. We struggle to hear this because we struggle with the thought of God as Judge and thus struggle with the justness of God's judgment. But what we learn in Amos 3 is that when God acts in judgment against His people, His judgment is always just.
