IF IT HAD NOT BEEN THE LORD
Psalm 124:2-3, 6-7
“If it had not been the LORD who was on our side, when men rose up against us: Then they had swallowed us up quick, when their wrath was kindled against us… Blessed be the LORD, who hath not given us as a prey to their teeth. Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers: the snare is broken, and we are escaped.”
There are certain phrases in Scripture that immediately draw us into reflection. “If it had not been the Lord…” is one of those phrases. It calls us to pause, look back over our lives, and consider the many moments when danger, despair, or destruction could have swallowed us whole, yet it didn’t.
Why? Because the Lord was on our side. The phrase actually means “by our side”. The truth is that we are on God’s side when we accept His Grace through Jesus.
