Profound~
For years I have felt that there was a strong connection between Buddhist teachings and the healing process, but not being a Buddhist (or a scholar of Eastern religion), I was unable to bring these teachings to my own healing process. With this book, Anne Angelone has done that work for us. Angelone studied Taoism and Buddhism at a University level and has a masters degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In her practice she specializes in working with people with autoimmune diseases. In this book she brings new scientific evidence and Buddhism together in an accessible and practical way. This is not just a theoretical book, though it does explain the application of Buddhist teachings clearly. It describes a series of profound but easy-to-implement practices that enable us shift the body and mind into healing mode through the use of ancient wisdom practices. I was particularly intrigued by the section of the book that describes the brainâs default network, in which negative thinking perpetuates itself through 'unintegrated neural processes'. Those processes, in turn, contribute to rigid thought and behavior patterns, which impact the nervous and immune systems. According to Angelone, we spend 47% of our waking hours in the brainâs default network unless we consciously take charge and redirect our brains through mindfulness practices as well as ensuring that our needs for safety, satisfaction and belonging are met. This is a rich book that contributes substantially to our understanding of healing.
