I see what you mean...
I couldn't resist the pun in the title, as the main character becomes invisible as a metaphor made real. This is a fun story, with a life lesson or two, a bit of social commentary, and a happy ending.
There is a significant amount of sex talk and crude language, as there is in the world around us. If that offends you, you should skip this book. If not, I highly recommend it. The pace is good, the editing polished. I read the entire book non-stop in one sitting.
This is the first book I've read from this author, but I am definitely looking forward to reading more. Anyone who can casually drop a My Little Pony reference in the middle of a story with graphic sex scenes has my vote!
A fun and thought-provoking read
This book was lovely and I could hardly put it down. The characters were relatable and reading their interactions felt like sitting around with friends. The story was not at all what I expected and, without giving away any spoilers, it was a fun twist on Chick Lit. Speaking of, the story served as much-needed commentary on what it means to be a woman in relationships and in the world. Highly recommend for anyone who loves a funny and thoughtful story and/or who is looking for a book you can escape into (the best kind!).
Five Stars
great fun read!
A good laugh out loud book
Loved this book, such a good light hearted read and easy to read as well. I will be reading more from this author.
to be seen
How important is it to be seen? To be seen at work for all your hard work and dedication? To be seen and appreciated in your relationship? To be seen for your beauty and intelligence and loyalty?Â
Izzy has been passed over for a promotion at work, more than once. Her boyfriend hardly looked up from his video game the last time she tried to seduce him. Her best friend Tash is a gorgeous flirt, who makes fast friends whenever they go out while she fades into the wallpaper. Izzy feels invisible, but she's content. That's just how things are, and she's accepted that things probably won't change.Â
And then things change.Â
Izzy wakes up one day and discovers that she's invisible. Not just metaphorically, but literally. She is invisible. And after she finishes being really freaked out about it, she figures out what an opportunity it is. She gets to see others for who they are, and they have no idea that she's even in the room. It's time to turn things around in her life, and she starts right away to clear out the clutter and make room for more work success, a better relationship, and the chance to see herself differently, which may be the greatest gift of all.Â
If You Could See Me Now is a charming, laugh-out-loud look at how we see ourselves and how we allow others to see us. Keris Stainton has created utterly likable characters and set them free in a world that is a combination of magical realism and all-too-real realism for so many women who feel invisible in life.
