The One Thing That's Needful

If You Don't Have It You Don't Need It ( Part 2)

Listen Later

In Part 2 of this faith-building series, Dr. Siohvaughn Funches-Dunnom continues unpacking the powerful promise of Philippians 4:19 — "My God shall supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."

This episode dives deeper into the spiritual battle between faith and logic. While God created us with reasoning and intelligence, He calls believers to walk by faith — not by sight. When challenges arise, especially those that appear "impossible" in the natural, the enemy tempts us to search for natural solutions. But spiritual battles require spiritual answers — and Jesus is always the answer.

Using the story of Hannah in First Samuel 1–2,Dr. Funches-Dunnom illustrates how barrenness represents more than infertility — it symbolizes emptiness, lack, and having nothing to work with. Hannah faced deep emotional pain, public provocation, and a closed womb — yet she continued seeking the Lord year after year. Instead of allowing bitterness to separate her from God, she brought her anguish honestly before Him.

When Hannah received a prophetic word from Eli and chose to believe God, her countenance changed before her circumstances did. That is the fruit of faith. Her womb had not yet opened, but her spirit had shifted. She went from weeping to worshiping — from grief to expectation.

God not only answered Hannah's prayer for one son; He over-answered it. He replaced barrenness with abundance, giving her multiple children. The natural facts never changed — there was still no "cure" — but God proved once again: if you don't have it, you don't need it.
