The One Thing That's Needful

If You Don't Have It You Don't Need It (Part 7)

Listen Later

In this episode of The One Thing That's Needful Podcast, Dr. Siohvaughn Funches-Dunnom advances her inspiring series, "If You Don't Have It, You Don't Need It," anchored in Philippians 4:19. The teaching emphasizes trusting God's abundant provision over human logic or visible resources, using biblical testimonies to build faith as per Revelation 12:11.

Peter's dramatic imprisonment in Acts 12 exemplifies this principle. Bound with double chains between soldiers, guarded heavily, and facing execution after King Herod killed James to please the crowd, Peter slept peacefully the night before his death sentence—resting in unwavering faith while the church prayed fervently.

A heavenly angel appeared, struck Peter awake, and his chains fell off effortlessly; doors opened automatically, passing multiple guards and the iron city gate without resistance, proving no captivity—physical or spiritual (like addiction and depression)—is beyond God's limitless power to shatter.

Even with imperfect faith, as shown by the praying believers' surprise at Peter's arrival, God honors persistent trust in His word over circumstances. God has miraculously delivered His children from all forms of bondages-physical prisons, addictions, etc…. And He has done so time and time again with the people and things logic leads us to think we need. God has done it with no lawyers, appeals, or rehab programs! God has proven countless times that Jesus remains the ultimate solution for freedom today!

God Supplies Every Need: Faith, Abundance, and Peter's Prison Break

Dr. Sivan (Avon) Funches Dunham introduces The One Thing That's Needful podcast, emphasizing the new covenant of grace, that faith comes by hearing Christ's word, and that believers receive God's promises by believing. Using Philippians 4:19 as the key text, she recaps lessons on walking by faith rather than sight, avoiding reliance on human reasoning, and trusting God's abundant provision (El Shaddai), illustrated by Hannah receiving more children than she asked for. She explains the importance of testimonies and the body of Christ, citing Revelation 12:11, and focuses on captivity as more than physical prisons. In Acts 12, Peter is imprisoned and facing execution, yet the church prays and Peter rests; God sends an angel, chains fall off, gates open, and Peter is delivered, showing Jesus still sets captives free even when natural solutions are unavailable.
