The Feast of the Lord Audio

If you’re still fighting PEOPLE, you’re already losing (Understanding Serpents, Part 9)

Listen Later

The enemy wants you drained. He wants you worn out. That’s why demons work like criminals—causing pain, drama, and confusion while you waste your time swinging at people. But here’s the truth: the fight isn’t with them. It’s against principalities, powers, rulers of darkness, and spiritual wickedness in high places.

Here are the author's notes from this week's mesage:

Understanding Serpents Pt. 9

*- Just before Jesus sent His disciples out to minister, He gave them specific instructions:

Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

Matthew 10:16 (KJV)

*- Serpents have extremely poor eyesight and cannot hear airborne sounds, so they can’t rely on those senses for awareness. Yet, they rarely miss what they aim to hit.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

Ephesians 6:12 KJV

[But] he who commits sin [who practices evildoing] is of the devil [takes his character from the evil one], for the devil has sinned (violated the divine law) from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done].

1 John 3:8 AMPC

*- What is spiritual wickedness in high places?

*- It’s a spiritual being higher than man but inferior to God.

*- wickedness: pain, toil, hardship, laborious trouble (evil that wears us down). So at its core, the word doesn’t just mean “evil” in an abstract sense—it implies evil that causes pain and drudgery (the effect of being weighed down, oppressed). It’s wickedness that inflicts suffering. It’s like our English use of “criminal”—not just bad in theory, but bad in active practice, doing harmful, unlawful things. So, it’s not passive—it’s wickedness that works like a criminal, spreading pain and corruption.

*- This demon’s purpose is to make us try to work to fix situations, without acknowledging God, which makes the individual morally bad or evil through self-centeredness. It’s a willful, malicious spirit that shapes evil thoughts, dispositions, and deeds. It describes depravity (corruption) that resists the will of God and automatically seeks to corrupt others.

*- high places: the lower heavens, or the heaven of the clouds, "on, fitting,"—heavenly, referring to the impact of a heavenly influence (good or bad) on a particular situation or person.

*- Warfare: Intercessory prayer and holiness practices wage battle against these spirits, hostile to God’s order.

Are you so foolish and so senseless and so silly? Having begun [your new life spiritually] with the [Holy] Spirit, are you now reaching perfection [by dependence] on the flesh?

Galatians 3:3 AMPC

3 And shall make Him of quick understanding, and His delight shall be in the reverential and obedient fear of the Lord. And He shall not judge by the sight of His eyes, neither decide by the hearing of His ears;

4 But with righteousness and justice shall He judge the poor and decide with fairness for the meek, the poor, and the downtrodden of the earth; and He shall smite the earth and the oppressor with the rod of His mouth, and with the breath of His lips He shall slay the wicked.

Isaiah 11:3-4 AMPC

We strike back and destroy the works of spiritual wickedness in high places by:

Refusing to Toil in the Flesh — Don’t try to fix situations with your own hands or mind.

Waiting on Discernment — Let the Holy Spirit interpret the atmosphere before you act.

Striking with Obedience — When He speaks, move immediately and precisely.

Resting in God’s Ownership — Remember, you belong to the Lord, not to toil or fear.

Lifework Assignment:

Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal areas in your life where you’ve been trying to “fix” things in your own strength instead of relying on Him. Write down one recent situation where you felt the pressure to toil or overwork in the flesh. Then, pray and ask the Lord to show you how to rest in His wisdom instead, moving only when He gives the word—just as serpents wait before striking.

Expected Behavior:

We will no longer exhaust ourselves with toil or frantic self-effort. Instead, we will walk in discernment and rest, trusting the Holy Spirit to guide our steps. Our accuracy in spiritual battles will increase as we strike with obedience to God’s Word—proving that we belong to the Lord, not to the weight of wickedness in high places.
