Ihumātao occupiers calling on Pasifika to support

Today is day four of peaceful protesters or protectors at Ihumātao opposing a housing development planned for land that is scared to Māori. The land was taken by the Crown in 1867 and sold to pakeha settlers. Those settlers descendants then sold it to Fletchers Building who’s planning on building 480 houses at Ihumātao. Producer Mabel Muller visited Ihumātaoand spoke with one of the leaders of the Save Our Unique Landscapes campaign, Pania Newton. Mabel asked Pania what’s been happening at Ihumātao so far. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says central government won’t intercede. She told media it’s something for local iwi to resolve. The Green Party are in full support and Auckland Council is re-looking at the situation with the Mayor asked to find a resolution for all involved.
